Symptoms of Schizophrenia is hearing voices... practically no difference at all
I heard Joy Berhar of The View say one day that the reason we don't have any current day saints is that all the people who used to be hearing voices are now medicated... One symptom of schizophrenia is hearing voices (this can also be a symptom of other disorders, btw). There are other symptoms, including paranoid or delusional thinking or behavior.
This might be schizophrenia: I hear a voice telling me to go into the middle of the street and stop cars, warning the drivers of impending doom.
Edit: Primordius Drool's answer might seem believable (humorous to me) but garbage to anyone who has had plenty of dealings with both groups of people. You could put the guy on the corner in a $1000 suit and he'd still have urine-soaked pant-legs and be muttering to himself. And if you spoke to him, he'd still mutter to himself. Sad that there are people here willing to see these individuals the same without knowledge or experience. The person hearing God don't have these symptoms!
Disorganized. The patient is aimlessly active, non-responsive, silly, or incoherent.
Catatonic. The sufferer is usually unresponsive; he or she may assume strange poses, or occasionally become extremely active to the point of exhaustion.
Paranoid. The sufferer has well-constructed and completely fictitious delusions of persecution. He is often fairly well adjusted in other aspects of life.
Undifferentiated. Hallucinations, delusions, and confusion.
Residual. The patient is not suffering acutely, but is withdrawn, unresponsive, eccentric, and has disjointed thought patterns If you are hearing voices, you should see a psychiatrist, as soon as possible. There are diagnosis which are mild diagnosis (such as hearing voices that tell you to do odd things like tie your shoes, and knock on walls) os schizophrenia, but they should also be looked into as they voices could get worse. Regardless of who or what you think the voices are, you should see a doctor as soon as possible. The only difference is that you dont get given therapy or free prescriptions for hearing the voice of God, but there isnt really a difference in the two in terms of mental state etc.
In my opinion, a Christian that claims to have had a calling from God because he spoke to them, is as nutty as the fruitloop who claims to be able to hear a rabbit telling them to jump down a hole.
Primordious Drool got it spot on. If that doesnt deserve best answer i dont know what does. Each of us hears a voice in our heads. It's the recordings of everything we have sensed since birth. What we have been exposed to will determine what that voice says.
To the quantum physics professor it's called "the observer", and is the part of us that determines the next course of action. They are only beginning to really understand how that part of us works.
To the religious, it is the voice of God. When we have truly learned scripture, absorbed it if you will, then when we need that information on how to act and how to proceed, it comes to us. Folks like me with a more practical faith call that hearing God's voice and why we call it His Word. We believe that the Holy Spirit gives us that Word at the moment we exactly need it.
A simple example: When I get all cranky and want to fuss at someone and my husband walks into view, I can hear the verse "Love one another as I have loved you" ... this is me hearing from God.
So if anyone tells you that God "spoke" to them and they don't immediately quote scripture of some sort, or relates their circumstance to a scripture verse, be in serious doubt. schizophrenia is a chemical imbalance in the brain. The voices they hear are never pleasant. They are always voices of pain and suffering, terror, anger. The voice of God is not an audible voice. He speaks to you through the Holy Spirit. Sometimes directly to your conscience. You know right from wrong. when you do wrong, your conscience lets you know right away. Its up to you to listen or not.... schizophrenics hear voices that tell them what to do...or tells them that everyone wants to "get them" .. and the things they are told to do will harm themselves or others.... also the voices come from within thier heads....
Gods voice does not come from the mind, and also does not in any way tell anyone to hurt themselves or another...
though many people with schizophrenia claim it is God. People who have experienced it can tell the differance Interpretation and context.
If an unkempt man in urine-soaked trousers stands on a street corner and talks to a being nobody else sees, we call him schizophrenic and pump him full of Thorazine.
If the same man, clean and pressed in a $1000 suit, stands in a certain building and talks to a being nobody else sees, we call him deeply spiritual and elect him to high office. You need to be able to do the 3 tasks you just mentioned to tell the difference.
But, ultimately, if you really can do the 3 tasks, no one will believe you and you may not even believe yourself right ?
Why ? Reason being that your mind is different from the others' mind and thus ultimately, it is still the mind matter. Nothing, though Schizophrenia has other symptoms, also. In all cases, it is just in your mind.
God and Satan are superstitions. If you believe in a fictional character strongly enough, you'll imagine that it's talking to you. God told Bush to invade Iraq. Bush told the Amish in 2004 while he was on the campaign trail that God speaks through him.
Normally, we would lock someone like that up and get them on the right meds. This one? The religious right swallowed it hook, line and sinker and reelected him. Nothing if you are the schizophrenic!
Everything if it is actually God speaking to you. If that happens, you are the most sane person on the planet; it's just that everyone else thinks you are mad because they are mad. One is normal, the other abnormal. One real, the other imaginary. In the first case you are handicapped if you don't do it, in the second case handicapped if you do. The difference is that one can either be indeed a schizophrenic or be experiencing a lucid dream or vision. In the last case, the experience is not out of schizophrenia. what you claim it to be?
there isn't much of a difference and I saw a program a few weeks ago on channel 4 (UK TV network) about religion and mental health diagnosis. Very little.
Peoples claims of hearing god's voice are either entirely made up, the result of selective memory or the result of mental illness. Good question. I have schizophrenia and I believe that some times it is intrepid as the same thing. The number of people supporting your delusion. The spelling? Considering that God doesn't exist, it must all be in their head no matter which way you look at it. NONE - Thank you. no difference
the person's mind isnt right either way schizophrenia
Definition
Schizophrenia is a psychotic disorder (or a group of disorders) marked by severely impaired thinking, emotions, and behaviors. Schizophrenic patients are typically unable to filter sensory stimuli and may have enhanced perceptions of sounds, colors, and other features of their environment. Most schizophrenics, if untreated, gradually withdraw from interactions with other people, and lose their ability to take care of personal needs and grooming.

HA SATAN / SATAN IS LOOKED UPON IN THE TRUE SENSE AS THE ADVERSARY
In the Old Testament the word Satan originally meant 鈥榓dversary鈥? the supernatural being that Yahweh allowed to test Job, 鈥榓 perfect and an upright man鈥? But the idea of a spirit of evil was developed in apocryphal literature, especially the Book of Enoch, written down after 200 BC. The fall of Satan was explained in terms of envy; he was jealous of Adam and refused as 鈥榓 son of god鈥?to pay him reverence and homage. Michael said he should worship 鈥榯he image of God鈥?or face the wrath of Yahweh, but Satan and his followers refused. They were flung out of heaven, down to earth, and from that moment started the enmity between Satan and mankind. Other angels, however, fell earthward because of the sensual charms of the daughters of men. Thus did Shemhazai and Azazel, who fathered 鈥榯he wicked demon Asmodaeus鈥? the Zoroastrian Aeshma. On the Day of Atonement the priests had to sacrifice a second ram. One scapegoat was for the sins of Israel, the other for Azazel. From the union of angels and women sprang the titans mentioned in Genesis, the giants who were drowned along with the 鈥榗orrupt鈥?descendants of Adam in the flood.
