Schizophrenia and schizophrenic episodes?

A friend told me that a guy I used to date back in high school, whom she has stayed friends with, has had a few schizophrenic episodes and had to be hospitalized recently. But that she isn't sure if he actually is "schizophrenic".
My question is......If someone has had confirmed schizophrenic episodes, is it possible that they had "episodes" and aren't clinically schizophrenic? I was under the impression that if you have any incidents, then you have it.
Any one with actual knowledge please illuminate me. Please don't leave an answer if it's just an opinion. I'm only interested in hearing if there is a specific determining factor.
Thank you.

If he has been diagnosed schizophrenic, then that's the label. If the docs aren't sure what his illness is, he may be diagnosed schiz NOS (not otherwise specified), psychotic disorder, or maybe something else until it's figured out. Depression psychosis and manic psychosis can be mistaken for schiz, btw, so it's not always easy to make the dx. That could be confusing for the family. He might not be schiz, but his behavior is consistent with their belief of what schiz should be. Dunno. More than likely, the family and friends are in denial and using "schiz episode" to soften reality.

You could not be having a schizophrenic episode and not be schizophrenic. Otherwise they would not be so named.
When eversomething has no known physical cause, in otherwords, a doctor cannot specifically say why it is caused; more than likely it is spiritual (demonic infestation).
For this problem a person needs a spiritual deliverance at a Pentacostal or church of God in Christ church, during delivery prayer service.

If somebody is diagnosed with schizophrenia, they always have it.
Sometimes people have psychotic episodes who do not have a long standing mental illness.

I have a close friend with this mental disorder and a person with schizophrenia, can also have other combined mental disorders at the same time. Also another illness that could be mistaken for schizophrenia is bipolar.
Bipolar disorder and schizophrenia
Bipolar disorder and schizophrenia have often been confused, partly because the delusions and hallucinations associated with severe mania may resemble the symptoms of schizophrenia. New research does suggest that bipolar disorder and schizophrenia may be linked to abnormalities in the same set of genes. However, these two conditions are quite different in a number of notable ways:

Schizophrenia tends to more severely interfere with a person's functioning, especially in the area of memory.
People with bipolar disorder are more likely than those with schizophrenia to have periods of remission.
People with bipolar disorder, as opposed to those with schizophrenia, can often be successfully treated with mood stabilizers such as lithium.
I have copied some of the information, I realize that you want correct information, so I have been very careful and found research to back up my information !!!
Good Luck and I wish your friend all the best!!
