How can you tell if what you have is Pure-O OCD or Schizophrenia? |
My grandmother has Schizophrenia & I have been diagnosed as having OCD but at times I have started to believe some of my obsessions were real. As a kid when I heard about someone getting murdered on T.V I could actually start believing that I did it & I've had dreams that I have believed to have really happened & there has been numerous occasions where I've started talking about certain memories & people look at me like, What the crap are you talking about that never happened?" but I have vague like memories of it happening. I do have checking compulsions, bad thoughts, & have had other OCD symptoms, I don't hear voices & I'm not paranoid unless I smoke pot, then I start thinking people can hear my thoughts & are plotting against me. How am I supposed to know if I have Schizophrenia or just OCD with poor insight? The best way to figure this out is to see your doctor that diagnosed your OCD. Tell him/her the same things you have told us. Please take care of yourself. Find out what is going on with you. Best Wishes. Does the doctor that diagnosed you know your family history? If not go back and tell them about your family history. You may have been misdiagnosed. Schizophrenia is a bit heavier than that. You seem like you're on the paranoid side of OCD, but schizophrenia is a whole different game. Schizophrenia tends to run in the family and come up when you become a young adult, but self diagnosing when it comes to things like this is usually a bad idea. If you really think you have a problem you could go to a psychiatrist, but it kind of seems likely that you are just paranoid that you will get it, so you are trying to find correlations, which is common. You probably ought to worry if you notice an abrupt change in you life and you find it hard to function (keep a job, stay in school, etc.) or if other people start to think something is seriously wrong with you! |
