How to help my mother with Schizophrenia? |
My mother displays alot of classic symptoms of a paranoid schizophrenic, but she refuses to see a doctor. She believes that most people are possessed by the devil and that these people are cursing her food to try and steal her spirit away. She never leaves the house anymore, but when she does she brings all of the food with her and locks it in the trunk of her car. I have had normal conversations with her, but every other time I talk to her it's about something else paranoid. Finally last December, she told me that she thought I was possessed by the devil, and that I was trying to steal her spirit. I haven't talked to her for 6 months now. She doesn't trust me, and she said that she feels physical pain when she talks to me. More than anything I want her to get help so that we can have a normal mother-daughter relationship. I miss her everyday and I'm not sure what to do. How can I get her help when she doesn't trust anyone? Call an ambulance. Explain whats going on and tell them you believe she is a possible harm to her own health and others. I am so sorry. I really hope she can get help. I understand your want for a normal relationship. keep trying. It will be ok! God bless. You need to hospitalize her and get her on medicine for it, you should call 911 to get her to the hospital, or call your friends to help move her to a hospital even against her will. This is not normal and it is going to kill her, and ruin you and your mind. take her to the local emergency room. it's better if the hospital has a psych unit. they can assess her and maybe offer to treat her From what I understand the real problem of your mother is not so much schizophrenia but the paranoid personality disorder; you leave below a summary about the disorder very difficult to treat and I hope you both help. The psychotherapy is the only solution and you should find some way to bring by a psychologist. In this case, you definitely have to call the police. Ask for an ambulance, and explain your situation. (I highly suggest refraining from doing it yourself or getting friends - let professionals do it, when she is that paranoid). |
