How do I deal with my mother having schizophrenia?

I'm 17. I've been aware of her illness for years, but lately I've been finding it harder to communicate with her because I lose my temper over the smallest things. I do not live with my mother, but do have "special times" set up, where we spend time together, whether it be me treating her to a meal or us watching a movie.

I took AP Psychology this year, and understand her paranoid schizophrenia much better now. She takes medication, so it's controlled. My problem is, I blame her for the past (when she wasn't on medications...she was very violent and an alcholoic drug user.)....events she doesn't remember.

Anyways, my question is really about me. How can I work with my mother having schizophrenia? How can I control my temper? And better yet, is there something wrong with me?

My mother is schizophrenic too and bipolar.
You just have to know that she is in a completely different mentality and just stay and be as normal as you can. You have to know that you are normal and stronger than her. And let that illness stop with you. And because your healthy and normal, you have the power to end it.
The only way to work with her is just let her be who she is, and accept whatever type of relationship you have with her. Accept that she has this and the past. You cant change the past, but you can change your reaction to how you feel about your past.
And the only way you can control your anger is forgivness. This is the hardest to do, but its such an empowering and freeing feeling. It is probably one of the best qualities a person can have.

you are probably worried about the possibility of having schizophrenia like she does or you are angery with her for not treating her disease properly. But when you have a condition such as schizophrenia you really dont think properly and I am sorry you blame her for the past but it is better to look forward to the future ;you cannot change the past.If you dont let go of your anger it will hold you back from enjoying life in general.good luck.

Take it a day at a time. You will be blessed for "trying"!
