Does anyone know what percentage of people can recover completely fr. schizophrenia, without medication?

No one every "completely" recovers from schizophrenia. It is a life-long illness. Less than 5% seem to reduce their symptoms without medication.

In fact, medication is not more a should I/shouldn't I issue than it is with diabetes.

There are lots of excellent medications that help with both the positive and negative sx of schizophrenia, and there is no good reason not to try them. (Side-effects, smide-effects, this is one of the worst illnesses around .... No would would ask an asthmatic or someone with gout if they'd rather avoid medication. And in those cases they help someone breath or walk. With schizophrenia, the medications help someone think more clearly and sense the real world.)

Sorry for the soapbox.

I believe it's about 3%. Those are the ones who have a schizophrenic episode, recover, and never have another episode.
