If You have a schizophrenia boyfriend?

Tell me what would you do if you have a boyfriend who is schizophrenia. Please be honest.

He just sometimes makes funny looks at me and funny hand signals and he accuses me of things I never did. And sometimes his mood changes back into being nice and sweet. Is that normal in a schizophrenia.

If you love him, don't give up on him. From what you've said I'm guessing the type of schizophrenia he has is paranoid schizophrenia. I have a good friend with paranoid schizophrenia and yes it is completely normal for him to change moods quickly and accuse everybody of things. It's also very hard for him to talk about his schizophrenia and how it makes him feel so I'd make it very clear to your boyfriend that you're there for him and won't judge him for how he feels sometimes. My friend is one of the nicest people I've ever known but sometimes it is hard for me with the way he acts. I can't imagine how you must feel but honestly if you love him, persevere. Of course people would understand if you couldn't, and I don't think anybody would blame you. I just wanted to show that if you look past the hardships, things can work out.

Just as with any other serious illness even asthma your taking on extra responsibility but he was honest with you about it and that says something. If he is managing it that says something positive also. The severity of schizophrenia is a large spectrum too. How disabled is this person, are you safe, is he functioning in his life well. There are many questions to discuss here with him or with a counselor of your own just to get a realistic objective view on what your in for. But trust me schizophrenics can be lovers and workers and fathers and husbands. Ive been in a relationship with a schizophrenic for 3 years now. Were doing wonderfully, he works a full time job, and treats me great. Im 24 years old.

If your young Id be carefull not to get too hung up until you see how he really is over a span of time. But dont rule someone out based on this diagnosis unless they are not caring for themselves or if their counselor or others such as parents etc say they have a history of any sort of violence or of not taking their medications and refusing treatment.

Most schizophreinics are NOT violent. and the few that are typically have one certain type of schizophrenia {paranoid } and are not taking their medications and taking care of themselves.

That is just cause not to bother with him if he wont care for himself. If you were with a diabetic who wouldn't take his insulin or see his doctor you shouldn't get messed up in that either.

Be as informed as you can, decide what your after a date or a husband, think of your age, think of how well he cares for his illness, and ask ask ask.

But I love my schizophrenic OCD boyfriend dearly. But that is just my case. yours might be different

After 30 years working in mental health and having a 19 year old daughter, I would encourage her to dump him as fast as she could. This love will be a trial by fire, Will he take his meds does his insurance pay for his meds, are you prepared to live on fixed income, if you want children there are genetic issues. Mental health services are being cut back every year. I would run the other way.

help him threw it get him help be there for him threw everything
