Does schizophrenia take away your personality and feelings?

Does schizophrenia take away your personality and feelings?

Schizophrenia can be thought of as a emotional haywire. Its not so much that schizophrenics dont have personality (in fact quite the opposite), but their ability to connect and emphasize is greatly skewed. Schizophrenia has long been suggested to be a dopamine system related dissorder, and dopamine is greatly indicated in mood behaivor and feelings. Unfortunatly this system does not "seem" to work properly in patients with schizophrenia, and thus have this sense of uncontrollable or unregulated emotional input and output.

Many drug therapies focus on regulated the Dopamine system in order to keep this condition at bay (however their are exceptions and other targets for treating this disease).

This is not to say that schizophrenics do not feel pain or able to share feelings with others, but in many cases their ability to control these feelings nad interpret them in a socially acceptable way is affected.

I don't think schizophrenia will take away a person's personality and feelings. Their behavior maybe awkward but I don't think that their personality and feelings wouldn't be there. I remember being psychotic at one time (from bipolar mania), and I still had emotion.
