Why is schizophrenia considered to be a reportable illness?

Is that true?
Or is it suspose to be a chronic illness like diabetes?

How can you compare the two? I don't agree.

Schizophrenia IS a chronic illness. I am not sure what you are asking about 'reportable'? I have worked in the mental health field for eleven years, at an outpatient facility with a high percentage of patients with schizophrenia. We do not report the diagnosis to any higher authority. We document the diagnosis and all pertinent interventions, we supply info for insurance and disability purposes, and we comply with court order in regards to both treatment and to communication with the court. A patient's record is confidential, and there are very strict guidelines about how/when/where/why any information is shared.
If you have threatened anyone, however, then that is required [by law] to be reported.

they are two very different illnesses, there is no comparison. so what is the purpose of your question?
