Schizophrenia and Disability? ?

My friend's 19-year old brother just got diagnosed with schizophrenia. The whole family is now grieving and at total lost what to do. The money situation is pretty bad too, especially that now they have to find the funds for the treatment, etc. Is there some kind of disability benefits he can get and how he can get them? Thank you.
