What is the difference between bipolar and schizophrenia ?

Schizophrenia is abnormalities in the perception or expression of reality. It most commonly manifests as auditory hallucinations, paranoid or bizarre delusions, or disorganized speech and thinking with significant social or occupational dysfunction. This is basically a personality disorder verus a mood order in BiPolar.

BiPolar- A mood disorder. You can go from mania to depression or have more depression than mania or visa versa.

With BiPolar or Manic Depression you suffer from extreme highs, the manic phase and then extreme depression. The depression can cause you to lose all self esteem, it can cause you to sleep a lot because of the lack of energy. It can cause you to lose interest in your friends and all of the things that you previously enjoyed. During the manic phase you have a huge amount of energy like being high, your mind races you may spend a lot of money, be promiscuous when you normally aren't, it can cause you to spend days and nights up.

Schizophrenia is much easier to diagnose as the person who suffers with that disease hears voices, sounds and sometimes has hallucinations. Each is a disease like heart disease or diabetes and requires a correct diagnosis from a psychiatrist and medication.

The main difference is that even though people with bipolar can have hallucinations schizo is is not associated with manic or hypo-manic phases.

bipolar -
depression ,increased energy extream irritability, little sleep,poor judgment, racing thoughts, extream spending , euphoric mood, anger outburst, guilt, lack of intrest,sadness, emptiness, changes in wieght and appetite and social isolation (and anything else that comes with depression)

schizo - hallucinations delusions, lack of ability to make plans, problems paying attention, lack of memory , trouble organizing, incoherent speech, anger outburst, lack of emotion, social isolation, paranoia, loss of motivation
