Questions about Schizophrenia.?

I want to know a few things about the chances of developing it. I am concerned that I am showing a lot of signs of the disorder. The only reason this thought crossed my mind is that my psychologist friend pointed out my habits as being symptoms of schizophrenia.

I just turned 18 a few days ago.

My grandmother had a severe case of Paranoid Schizophrenia, and killed herself because of it.

Mother has bad bi-polar.

I've done a pretty high amount of drugs, mostly weed.

Heavy smoker, a pack a day.

Sleeping is an issue with me, it is hard for me to sleep.

I am convinced that I am being watched most of the time.
(First I thought my house was haunted, but i have moved several times since, and still have the same paranoid feeling.)

I laugh when I am extremely upset.

Depressed.

Feel weird a lot, I have a weird point of veiw, hard to explain...

People think i am high all the time, or that i'm pissed because i don't have much of a facial expression.

Heven't been able to hold a relationship for longer than 2 months EVER. I'm talking like more relationships than i could count on 3 hands. I just can''t seem to trust the woman i am with at the time, and i'm always convinced she is cheating on me or with another man.

I forget what i'm saying a lot, and have trouble remembering what i was saying, and i jump to other subjects quickly.

Oh, and I had these symptoms long before I had any idea that i might have schizophrenia. a little help would be appreciated...it is a concern i have. Please tell me what you think? I need other peoples thoughts....

I don't think you have schizophrenia.

And to Mad Mac- sometimes it does develop. Just because it was sudden onset for you doesn't mean that's how it happened to the rest of us.

Schizophrenia does not develop. It happens by chance like being struck by lightning. The cause(s) of the several types of schizophrenia is unknown to medical science. None of what you described sounds to me like schizophrenia.

Wow! you have alot going on buddy.
I would not label yourself based on your friends assessment.
That disease is very broad and while schizophrenia does cause abnormalities in the perception or expression of reality it most commonly manifests as auditory hallucinations, paranoid or bizarre delusions, or disorganized speech and thinking with significant social or occupational dysfunction. You do not mention hearing voices or having hallucinations

Paranoia believe it or not is also a result from smoking weed. I smoke it, it screws up my short term memory bigtime and thats permanent my friend and i get nervous or the paranoia thinking. Also causes depression.
Relationship issues i would address with a mental health counselor, you have unresolved issues and you may not even be aware of them. I cant hold down relationships either, i sabotage them or find someway out for some damn reason, but its a result of things from my past that make it so hard for me to be with one person. Again , therapy is needed.
I have issues sleeping as well.

If i smoke however i sleep like a baby, If i was to quit smoking weed i know after a few weeks or so my sleep pattern will come back to normal as long as im active during the day.

I suffer from PTSD, depression and anxiety. I use weed to medicate those symptoms as well as some serious medical problems i have. The weed is safer than the drugs i got from my doctor!!!!

You have a very deep history of mental issues, you need to see a professional because you are having so many many symptoms. But dont classify yourself yet.
A good mental health affliliate will NOT make a diagnosis based on one visit. Alot of history is accumulated, family history ect. and background.

You have alot of history as does my family with the depression and anxiety.

I have been told that chronic weed use "may" cause schizophrenia, but im in my 40s, smoked most of my life and im not schizophrenic, so i dont buy it, but the paranoia is very real from it.

You said you have done a fair amount of drugs. All the symptoms you have listed can ALL be caused by illegal drug use. So please honey, speak to a professional and not your friend. You need someone who is not biased by knowing you

I wish you all the luck. I think once you go somewhere, things will seriously change for you.But if your still using street drugs, none of the above is going to go away
And if none of the above is from past or current drug use, then the professional will be able to determine exactly what is wrong and go from there with undoubtedly more drugs unfortunately.

Please don t let this go. Especially with your family history. Hope this helps some.

sounds just like you have some tendencies toward the paranoia/anxieties and mood problems...and the paranoia everyone has to a certain extent (thinking others are malevolent due to past experiences, or nightmares of burglars coming into your house)...its just if it effects your work, school, day to day life poorly...and many of the paranoid thoughts are just similar to anxiety and can be helped by like cbt (training your thoughts away from logical fallacies)...to me honestly it sounds more like depression or anxiety or both but you can go and see a therapist and see what they think...it doesn't sound like schizophrenia, just because youre wierd doesnt mean youre schizophrenic...wheres the break with reality, having fun with dreaming about other worlds so much that they become real...i know genetic disorders are always at hand to worry about but id just use the knowledge you have of it to try and not develop it later like spending too much time not in the real world and try and develop better thinking habits to curb your anxiety/jealousy issues/paranoia...worrying about it too much can only hurt you (by causing more anxiety) just try to use the knowledge of it for your own betterment...and just cuz you turned 18 doesnt mean youll suddenly get it either, it develops from genetic predispositions and more importantly 'different' habits in thinking, logic, and behavior that become more than just a habit but who you are as a person...

i have spent the last yr studying schizophrenia alone and have learnt most things about it if you take drug then you have 6 percent chance of having it if your nan had it then im not sure the exact but it is around another 2percent chance you should talk to a proffesinal as i feel you have the early sighns go on this website and look at the schizoprenia information
good luck i hope for the best http://psychcentral.com/

I don't know much about schizophrenia, but it sounds to me like you only have some mood swing issues. You probably only have it if someone else notices a big personality change in you between periods of time. If you were schizophrenic, you would probably forget everything until you switched back to the personality that you were in when you thought about it first. You would find yourself in a room and go, "How did I get here?" You shouldn't worry much about it. However, if you are anxious to the extreme, seek a psychiatrist to help you.
