Is it possible that everybody in bible that heard or saw god had schizophrenia and just didnt know it?

keep an open mind christians

Given that many schizophrenics hear the voice of God on a daily basis, it would be very unlikely if the bible was not written by people with mental illnesses.

While biologically speaking, it's possible, it's just not true. I can't believe that back then, schizophrenia was widespread. Because the Bible depicts many different example of people seeing God. I can't imagine hundreds or thousands or people being crazy psychos.

BTW, Christians like me don't have to keep an open mind to the lies I'm being fed to by people like you.

Not all. There weren't "hundreds of thousands" who saw god. There were many who allegedly "suffered the wrath of god," but not all that many actually claim to have stood there and talked to the real god.

Those who claimed to have seen god either suffered some form of mental illness or possibly some sort of physical ailment that came with symptoms such as delusion, hallucination, etc.

Then there were those who were deliberate liars intent on controlling the loyalties of others. What better way to win the co-operation of gullible peasants than to tell them god spoke and orders them to obey.

Still, some other people just wanted attention and would say anything to get that attention. Since early humankind were so easiliy manipilated and devoid of cynacism, plus they were extremely superstitious, it was the easiest way to gain their attention and obedience, to appeal to them on a religious level. Nobody questioned another who said they had spoken to god. People really believed it then .... as now.

Possible but extremely unlikely.

What's remarkable about the bible is that a library so amazingly cohesive was written over period of 1500 years by 40 different authors, consisting of kings, prophets, shepherds, farmers, fishermen, tentmakers all sorts of people attesting to the existence and personality of the creator God, His love for His creation and our need for reconcilation back to Him.

so you believe that the people in the bible were real people. wow, that 's a first step, keep on reading and while you are at it read these verses ;1cor.14:34-35 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law.

35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

No, but it certainly is possible that everybody who saw God was very brave to admit to it and face the ridicule of others who would accuse them of mental illness.
Imagine the courage that it takes to set oneself up for the hoots and catcalls of those who think profound spiritual experiences are fake!
Jesus knew this, and he said, "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God."

If you've never seen Hawaii, would you ridicule folks who claim they vacationed there?
If you met the astronauts who walked on the Moon, would you say they were schizophrenic to believe that they were there?

All religious experiences like visions, voices, delusions about being carried up to God, etc. are technically the same as schizophrenic episodes. Yet the content of their visions being religious and thus acceptable would be termed as not schizophrenic but maybe acts of God or the Holy Spirit.

How much arrogance does it take to accuse 95% of the human race of a mental disease just because they believe in something you don't?

(Is it possible that because you DON'T hear God's voice and we do that there might be something mentally lacking in you?)

My mind is open, thank you very much. I just think differently than you. Which isn't saying much, because obviously you aren't thinking.

Sorry if that was mean, but it's the truth. Go ahead and deny it all you want, but deep in your heart, you know it's true.

Not likely. However, it is more likely that not everyone that heard or saw God was a real person. For example, we know that Moses did not exist, at least not in any way that slightly resembled the Biblical account.

Yes - but that seems extraordinarily unlikely. As far as I can tell (and I am no expert, by any means), most of the prophets do NOT exhibit most of the symptoms common to schizophrenia.

As possible as we are putting the "modern day" prophets into the "rubber room". They didn't get much better treatment throughout history.......

It is possible. Especially the part about the unicorns KJV.

There is a theory that everybody was schizophrenic until about 600 BC.

Possible,

No, but it's possible that everyone who wrote the Bible was a psychopath.

those who have eyes
let them see
those who have ears
let them hear

I don't think today's fake psychics are schizo, so it's not a requirement.

oh yeah totaly possible -rolls eyes-

More than just possible- It makes a hell of a lot of sense.

I've always thought that Jesus was a mentally retarded person whom everyone believed.

Nobody has seen God. John 1:18

apparently mental illness is still fair game for mockery

tsk tsk
