What are my chances of getting schizophrenia? |
I was adopted when i was little, but i have always known that my biological dad was schizophrenic. I never really gave it much thought until recently I have found out that my biological mother was too. What are my odds of getting the disease? i have heard that it is triggered by stress or traumatic situations. what can i do to prevent it? Also, i am 20 years old You can not prevent schizophrenia. If you have it, it will eventually appear. Second of all, your chances aren't 50%- more like 30 or 40 at most. Second- don't stress out about it. If you do have it, it can be triggered by stress, but as I said before, it isn't like if you have no stress in your life, it will never show up. It's an interesting situation, actually. Because thought schizophrenia is proven to be genetic, I think that it is also proven that the chances of having it are even greater if you are living with the relative who has it. I'm not sure how far the research and proof on that part of it have come, however. You have like a 47% chance of getting it. There isn't much you can do. If you're gonna get it, you're gonna get it. Usually it won't show up in women until their late 20's early 30's (but it MAY be earlier)... for a man it's younger. Just find a site or ask a doctor about the symptoms and if you start to notice them, get immediate help. Schizophrenia is a terrible thing to live with and many people kill themselves over it. Don't go that far if you get it. Please get help. There is a higher chance of you developing schizophrenia. I'd say about 40-50%. The causes of schizophrenia are as follows: go to your doctor to get checked, and if you do have it, there You are at a little higher risk than the average person, but as long as you live your life how you can be proud of, it doesn't matter if you develop it. Most people are diagnosed by the age of 25. 50/50 higher than 50% |
