Schizophrenia? is it herretic? |
let's say, your uncle has had schizorprenia. your uncles's uncle had also, and his uncle too. and now you have a son now. is it possible that your son will also have the risk of being schizophrenic? there is a risk because of the genetics. but keep in mind how important the environmental stress triggers are in setting someone off with the predisposition. in my opinion, environment is more than 50% respondible. i would say closer to 70. (obviously this will probably never be able to be accurately tested and measured---this is just how i feel from research and experience) have even heard of cases where people had a family history much like the one you are referring to that led a basically normal life, maybe didnt handle stress quite as well, but still was able to live out their full lives without psychosis. Source(s): it is hard to tell if a child is going to be a schizophrenic during childhood because of the imagination factor, at least as far as bizzare behoavior is concerned. i would pay more attention to if your child is extremely quiet and reclusive or something like that. schizoid personality can develop into schizophrenia. symptoms of this are avoiding relationships, unresponsive and unegaged. however, some children are shy, so it is hard to tell. i would concentrate on exposing your children to as many group and one on one social situations as possible. i would also talk alot around your child. read to him and ask him questions. teach him words and ways of expressing him. ask him how he feels. and most importantly try to make it clear to him that you love him no matter what he feels. there is really no way to prevent schizophrenia genetically per se, but i think doing these things could be good preventative measures. also you mentioned removing all stress from the child. this would be beneficial to some extent if you were removing him from unneccesary stress (like abuse, not to suggest that is there, just an ex)But the thing is is that if you somehow successfully removed all stress from his life he would lack the resources he needed in life to cope with it, especially during adolescence. i would just try to let things be at a healthy, normal balance. if you begin to think he has trouble dealing with stress on a normal level already, then you may consider taking him to a childrens counselor just to be safe. dealing with stress has a lot to do with it. generally people develop schizophrenia (or psychosis for that matter) when the stress they have is greater than their ability to cope with it. it is basically like a personality de-integration of sorts. it is the brain trying to cope with emotional overload. in a sense it could be considered a survival mechanism, if you can see it that way. so being attentive to healthy personality INTEGRATION, especially during pre teen and teen years is key. |
