Schizophrenia dilemma? |
Well 3 yrs back I was diagnosed with Schizophrenia and was prescribed tablets. I recovered pretty fast and from the past 6 months to a year , I have seem no symptoms. So I stopped taking the tablets a few weeks back and there was no problem. But I started taking it again due to parental pressure. Well I haven't taken the tablets yesterday and I am doing just fine. The reason why I stopped the tablets was because it was putting me in deep sleep. I couldn't wake up even if there were 2 alarms next to my ear. And since I am a college student, I have to stay awake to prepare for exams. Is it ok to stop taking the tablets or should I continue? I don't hear any voices nor do I face any problems regarding this. Any suggestions? You have a great need to be accepted by peers. I understand your circumstances. Sometimes, all you want is some acceptance and approval, but, you're not going to get this, bc everyone's just as stress out as you are. You seem to 'attract' negative input from them; they find you a ready source of picking up their 'trash'. I would suggest you avoid them as much as you can. If you can study on your own, by all means. If you have a good friend, stick close by. Parents don't know any better, so, try not to hold things too hard on them too. They could've been more supportive in emotional issues, but, few of us have this privilege. Everyone has little time for friendship building in this harsh world, but, don't be too hard on yourself either, understanding the harsh reality of life is one thing, transforming as you grow is another. Not in a negative, disillusioned way, but, 'knowingly', acceptingly, not being non-assertive though. You might need to set some boundaries when you can with some people who are mature enough to hear them. Some may not and will continue to be unpleasant. Avoid these. I pray you will soon 'attract' safe others to help you grow positively. Often, there are multiple different types of prescriptions for problems like schizophrenia. If the side effects are unacceptable and causing more problem than they're solving, you may want to consult your physician about getting a different prescription. Talk to your doctor. Perhaps the dose is too high? those drugs take a while to build up in ur system so imagine they they a while to wear of as well but if you talk to your treating doctor about the tiredness/iability to wake up. but no going cold turkey on those kinda meds is a really bad idea. a blood test should be able to say what ur levels are at. .. and what induced the episode in the first place ? did it come from no where or experimenting? .... I understand your dilemma. I work with schizophrenic people all the time. Some of the newer drugs don't have the side effects of sleepiness as you describe. You shouldn't have to be put in a stupor while trying to control your symptoms. Please return to the Physician who prescribed the current medication you're on and request he/she put you on something that won't cause such extreme drowsiness. Yes, you should be on medication, your symptoms will return without it. And they could take awhile to return. But it's important you be on the right medication, it can make all the difference in the world. It's a trial and error situation for most people with schizophrenia. You may have to try several different meds before you find the right one for you. So, please see your Doctor, ok? By the way, is the Physician who prescribed you medication a GP or a Psychiatrist? If he/she is a regular family Physician, you may want to consider seeing a Psychiatrist. They have a deeper knowledge of psychotropic medications than a regular Physician. Just something to consider. Hope this helps and good luck to you! If you are a schizophrenic you should not stop taking your medication. Go back to your psychiatrist and tell her/him that your current medication is making you very sleepy. How severe are your symptoms? Do the voices take over? Do you visually hallucinate? it really depends on the medications your taking, some medicines deal with certain chemical levels, while others are mask symptoms. I would talk it over with the doctor and let him know your dillema. DETOX YOUR SYSTEM EAT LIGHT NO EATING AFTER 7PM AND DEFINITLY WEAR EAR PLUGS AT NIGHT IT STOPS YOU FROM RESPONDING TO NOISES IN YOUR SLEEP CUT OFF ALL LIGHTS UNPLUG EVERYTHING EVERYTING TRUST ME AND MASSAGES ARE KEYmassage daily the hair line where haha horns would be before sleeping and throughout the day!!!! best of luck!!!!oh take motion sickness dramamin its a over the counter drug;buy camphor tablets smell them often they help with this problem!!!! |
