Is schizophrenia a hereditary Disease?


My sister in law has that and my friend keeps saying that I have to be careful for my children.

yes, it can run in families, but just because one person in the family has it, does not mean anyone else will have it. Schizophrenia can also be caused by child abuse, and trauma as a child.

Well if your sister in law has the disease, then you don't have to worry about heredity as she is only related to you by law, not blood.
Why would you have to worry about your children becoming schizophrenic if your sister-in-law has the disease? She has no genetic link to those children.

not exactly.There are many unknown theories ,by now all unproven.It apears more in certain families that doesn't mean a hereditary basis.
