Is Schizophrenia heriditary?

My dad had it. He got it when he fell off his motorbike, and banged his head, before I was born. Will I get it? I'm so scared. I have depression just now.

Schizophrenia is caused when there are chemical imbalances in the brain. Perhaps your father got it because he hit his head. It doesn't mean you'll get it. There are other "triggers" of schizophrenia, such as high stress, post-traumatic indicators for those more predisposed to it. Usually hereditary schizophrenia has visible symptoms in adolescent. Check with your family physician or browse the web for a local chapter that is dedicated to Schizophrenia if you need expert advice.
