I got schizophrenia when I was 14 years old....I had a vasectomy so that my child wouldnot get it...did I do?

the right thing?

Bobby Rungta

I didn't know what is vasectomy and found out that it makes a man permanently sterile... You definitely made a very courageous decision. It's hard to judge you and nobody EVER will give you the right answer whether it's the right decision or not. Since you decided you wanted it, it's YOUR decision and be proud of it. Life is too short to regret something.

My friends' advices
Think of how you suffer at times. Would you want that to be passed on to your children when the chances are so high for it to be passed on. Yes there are meds. you can take to help control it but they don't always help and it's a bit*h going through the process of changing meds I know I'm not schizophrenic but but bi-polar2 and have horrible days where I wish I were dead, knowing I will be this way the rest of my life.......
? I don't understand what having a vasectomy has to do with passing schizophrenia to a child you already have.... Isn't it in most cases hereditary? Isn't a vasectomy to prevent you from having children? I think you have your wires crossed, or did you have that cut too?
with what is commonly know today by the general public about psychiatric diagnoses and medications, your actions are understandable... why subject an innocent child to a life of pain and suffering

new information is slow in trickling down to the public and it is largely in the medical profession's best interest that it not be speeded up

imho, with what we know today and are continuing to build a knowledge base around is that people diagnosed with schizophrenia can fare quite nicely in the long run

I understand your action but if you ever regretted it, often the procedure is reversible and there's always adoption... at least you have some options

He doesn't have a child, he a vassectomy so he wouldn't have a kid that could inherit his disorder, when he says my child he meant if he'd had one rather than a vasectomy.
