Someone with Schizophrenia?

can someone who has Schizophrenia or any other mental ilness get the maximum sentance for stealing something if they are being treated for the problem

They can be put in an institute for the crimally insane. Yes, they still can be incarcerated. Also sometimes they treat mental illness in prison. Making sure that they take their medicine. They also have Psychologists that come to the prison. He will continue to treat thier illness.
a judge can do whatever s/he wants.
if is person is charged with theft, and it is a direct result of the persons illness, the judge may order treatment and probation. if it not, then a person would receive what ever sentence a judge decides. sometimes people that are mentally ill, commit crimes, not because they are mentally ill, but because they chose to do it, and they know right from wrong. stealing is not usually;y a symptom of a mental illness, but a symptom of behavior
CATCH 22 - DO YOU GET IN THE BRAIN IN THE FIRST PLACE TO FIND OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS AND DO YOU EVEN KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS IN THE FIRST PLACE AND THEREFORE HOW DO YOU MONITOR WHETHER OR NOT THE MEDICATION IS WORKING. SO THEN I F NOT KNOWING WHAT YOU TREATING, HOW CAN YOU TELL IF THAT PERSON BEING TREATED HAS BEEN TREATED?
