How are people with schizophrenia evaluated in mental institutions? |
Are ink blot tests still used at all? http://sensitive-psychoworld.blogspot.co... no they dont use inkblots anymore... therapists will sit you down and ask you questions such as: do you hear voices, do you see things that other people dont see, do you have unreasonable anger and paranoia? me :) Scizophrenia was recognized early and has been intensively studied. It presents with a typical set of symptoms and signs that are diagnostic: Delusions: I have no stomach; Aliens are frying my heart; My dog talks to me; I'm Elvis; I work for the CIA, etc. Hallucinations: Usually this takes the form of voices. There can be lots of them and often they issue commands, or tell the victim over and over that he is evil or bad. Very poor sense of humor: Schizophrenics are very bad at "getting" jokes. They will also laugh at things that would make other people cry, reflecting a disordered emotional life. Poor realtionship to the body: Often the hygiene is very bad. Victims will wear winter coats in the middle of summer because they're so preoccupied by the voices that they can't pay attention to things like what their body feels like. Paranoia: People are laughing at me; I have enemies everywhere; People are spying on me; People are trying to poison me, and so on. Most of them are ferocious smokers. Truly, this is one of the most miserable mental illnesses a person can have. Former nurse |
