My older brother with schizophrenia has to take more than 10 different pills three times a day? |
My older brother who has been abused when he was young(now a diagnosed schizophrenic) has to take more than 10 different pills three times a day. He's been taking these pills for past 20 years. His ever-changing psyciatrist and/or psychologists prescribes these different pills to control his sometimes violent temper and to force him to sleep alot. Isn't there another more humane way to help him besides giving him pills? I am constantly worried that his health will deteoriate due to taking of all these pills for so long. He is 43 and he lives in a board-and-care facility. He is also legally blind & color blind which has probably nothing to do with my question but just wanted to disclose. My aunt also has schizophrenia. Most of the time she seems normal, but she has had periods in her life where she can bearly function, she hears things, can't reason normally among other things. Often the meds are at fault, the dose is to much or to little, the wrong meds, or the meds of simply stoped working with her. Doctors will often prescribed meds that will make the person so drugged up they can bearly do anything, my guess this might be an attempt on the doctors part to "make them easier to deal with" as I have heard it. Or maybe the doctors just don't really care, they much rather the person hurry up and die, and become less of a burden. From what I have witnessed far to many people have this opinon. A lot of people with mental illness are poor and on disibility. Since the government is paying for their care, these people get the very basic care, if you want to call it that. The don't see the psyciatrist as often as they should, the doctors are overwelmed and underpaid, and even if they care, they can't help people they way they need to. Its great your brother has someone who cares. Perhaps you could find a doctor that really knows what he is doing, and can communicate with your brother, and not just drug him to the gills without helping him the way he needs it. If your brother can get on the right meds, and get the counsling he needs, he might be able to function a lot better. thework.com ... you may find a way to dramatically improve his condition. What is it? 4 powerful questions. Unaffiliated with spirituality, religion, etc. Simple yes, but it can release him from tormenting thoughts. all he needs is one antipsychotic one antidepressant and a sleeping aide if he has that issue two everything else is overkill i have lived in a board n care n so. california nursing homes in illinois all those psychiatrists are pill pushers cause the drug companies send their reps to take care of them if you know what i mean its all overkill Sometimes when people are abused when they're young, they develop PTSD from that. PTSD can lead to violent outbursts in some consumers. He may have both PTSD & Schizophrenia, but of course I can't diagnose him. There is therapy for PTSD besides medication, but medication definitely needs to be administered for the schizophrenia. |
