Why do some people with schizophrenia not want to learn or even try new things? |
My roommate has schizophrenia, and whenever I've offered to teach him stuff, like how to use a computer or how to use even something simple like a CD player, he says he's not really interested..but it's mostly technology stuff he seems to dislike yet he watches TV and listens to radio...is it that he's afraid to interact with a 'machine' or afraid he'll 'break something'..or is it that learning something new is scary for someone with his illness? I don't pressure him, I have a mental illness(schizoaffective disorder)why am I so different, why am I open to learning stuff while he isn't? maybe the voices in his head argue and won't allow him to do new things. Watching tv and listening to radio, don't really involve to much thinking, maybe thats it. Have never heard of your disorder, but it sounds like you got it in check. Good luck Hide little speakers around the place and in a very low voice over the speakers say over and over once in a while "learn new things, I am your soul and I want you to learn new things" After a while he will think that you are the voices in his head an do want you want. There are different types of any mental disorder, schizophrenia is like the big title, but , it also has sub-titles, and their cararistics are different. |
