What are the effect of schizophrenia?

There is a huge rage of symptoms in schizophrenia and the effects are quite severe, they make people lose touch with reality and often make them scared of the world it creates them to withdraw from socially interacting and often their hygiene drops, unless treated it gradually degrades the persons mental health over stage and you will eventually lose them in the manner that they may never be their old self again so treatment is very important.
The symptoms are as following:
delusions- convinced of things that are not true such as people hearing her thoughts or her food being poisoned

hallucinations- seeing/hearing/feeling/smellin... things that are not there (smelling and hearing things the more common ones mostly hearing voices )

Random disorganized mood swings- I stress random, if it is periodic then it is not schizophrenia as schizophrenia is always random

suspiciousness- mostly of partners or friends

Completing tasks and hygiene tend to be things that slip up

Disorganized speech- conversations will jump from topic to topic with no real link and sometimes she will say very strange things that make no sense to us but have an underlying message to them

Sensitivity- emotionally or to colours and noises

Withdrawal from social interaction

Catatonic behaviour- the person may not move for hours on end

Schizophrenics tend to be at times placed into more than one category as there are different forms of schizophrenia, symptoms vary from person to person also. Source(s): Am a paranoid schizophrenic
You hallucinate..hear voices, see things....
visual or auditory hallucinations. Frequently accompanied by delusions, specially when left untreated and in the advanced stage
with drawing from society curling up in the fetal position. Hallucination, Loosing the ability to tell the difference between fantasy and reality, maladaptive behavior, Paranoia ( usually having the feeling that you are being followed)
Characteristic symptoms-
Two or more of the following, each present for a significant portion of time during a one-month period

# delusions
# hallucinations
# disorganized speech
#grossly disorganized behavior
#negative symptoms, i.e., affective flattening (lack or decline in emotional response), alogia (lack or decline in speech), or avolition (lack or decline in motivation).

Duration: Continuous signs of the disturbance persist for at least six months. This six-month period must include at least one month of symptoms (or less, if successfully treated) that meet Criterion A.

Social/occupational dysfunction: For a significant portion of the time since the onset of the disturbance, one or more major areas of functioning such as work, interpersonal relations, or self-care, are markedly below the level achieved prior to the onset
the classic case is when an individual sees and/or hears things which are not really there. controlling the symptoms is often the course of action taken, and involves the taking of several different drugs on a daily basis, first as an inpatient to get the balance needed, and then as an out-patient to maintain the balanced condition.
for some, it is a very debillitating condition, for others, just a bothersome one.
