75% is traceable to genes. Twin and adoption studies have demonstrated a genetic influence. However the fact that monozygotic concordance is less than 100% is proof that environmental factors must also be involved. First-degree relatives of individuals with schizophrenia have a risk for schizophrenia that is about 10x higher than general population.
