If a person suffer from Schizophrenia or psychosis would alcohol make their irrational thoughts worse? |
I don't know if I have those illnesses but sometimes I feel like everyone is against me especially certain white people who are authority figures. I was going to counseling but I got bored and tired of having to sit there and listen to a guy give me advice about things I can just set my mind to and accomplish myself. I came to the conclusion that only liquor can help me conquer my depression and anxiety. I'm 30 years old and even though I have a girlfriend that I love very much I feel like a loser. I haven't worked in 2 and a half years but I'm trying to find a job. I also think I might have Asperger Syndrome. What should I do? :-( 1st thing is to stop drinking! My grandmother suffers from schizo and other mental illnesses and she's an alcoholic. over the years, alcohol has worsened her illness. she hears voices and has recently attempted suicide because the voices told her to do it. she's constantly put into mental facilites. i personally have the same problems as you with depression and anxiety and have to stop myself from drinking because i have done it in the past and dug a deeper hole for myself. i advise you to find a psychologist that is right for you as well as a good psychiatrist to find the right medication if necessary. just know that you are not alone...many suffer from the same problems and alcohol will only worsen it. once you start, you'll create a chemical depency on alcohol that will really have you feeling depressed. talk with your girlfriend and aske for her support. good luck I'm 30 years old too. Also been diagnosed with schizophrenia. I used to drink like a fish. I don't have time to go into the pain that alcohol caused me, but it was severely severe. Stop drinking by any means possible. It is poison and is making your symptoms worse. DO NOT come in contact with any container of alcohol or the liquid itself. Your depression and anxiety has not been cured, it has merely taken a back seat to your drunkenness. It will surface to bite you in the *** someday IF your digestive system holds outs and doesn't bite first. Yours is a case that is truly one the most, if not the most, important questions that I haved answered. We are in the same boat my freind. I hope that you can turn that frown up-side down :-) Your hypersensitive system can produce abnormal reactions to common activities like smoking, drinking too much caffeine, and using cold medications. Small amounts of illegal drugs and alcohol can induce or mimic psychosis, or worsen the symptoms of schizophrenia. That may be why people with schizophrenia are four times more likely to develop a substance (alcohol or drug) problem. You're trying to self-medicate with alcohol. It doesn't work, and can indeed make your problems worse. Try seeing a psychiatrist who can put you on meds, rather than a counselor who prefers "talk therapy." Given your hangup with white authority figures, I'd try to find a shrink who is Black (if you can; I've never met one). If you happen to live near Little Rock, Arkansas, e-mail me and I'll give you a referral to a shrink who's really good. He isn't Black, but he's done me a world of good. See a doctor and be diagnosed. A doctor should be able to recommend either medication or a therapist. In the mean time get off the booze and get serious about your job hunt. (Who's supporting you [developing] alcohol habit?) |
