How to help people with schizophrenia?

How to help people with schizophrenia?

Tell them there's a friend of theirs in the hospital they should go see. When you get to the hospital make sure there are available staff members to take them into the psyche ward and be treated.
I'm not trying to be insensitive here as I have a sister with this and that's what my other sister and her daughter did to get to the hospital one time. It's very hard as they are so paranoid. It's been tough and I think of her everyday.

Make sure they take their medication regularly - that's the only thing you can do for them, and that is important.
Schizophrenia is an illness that is sensitive to stress. Stress doesn't cause schizophrenia, but too much stress can make the positive symptoms worse. Therefore, stress management is really important. That's not to say that someone with schizophrenia should never have any stress-that's not realistic, and many of life's rewards come from doing stressful things. But, people with schizophrenia need to know how much stress they can handle without getting sick again.
I don't know if this will help or not, but I have bipolar disorder type I. I have hallucinations and delusions. Before I was diagnosed with bipolar, I had a period of psychosis, which lasted 1/2 a year. During this time, I had a complete break with reality. I had nothing in my mind to tell me that my hallucinations were not real. I heard voices that told me horrible things. The psychiatrists originally thought that I had schizophrenia. My parents didn't know what to do. Someone must of told them that I needed to get involved in something, so my mom went and bought a bunch of paint and crafts. I didn't understand this and didn't use them. I didn't believe my parents were my real parents. Looking back on my psychosis, I have thought that if someone could have got in my head and talked to me about what I was seeing and hearing that maybe I could have thought my way out of it. If someone could have said, "I'm not going to hurt you, I want to help you. Please believe me because whatever is telling you otherwise is not real." Maybe if they had explained mental illness to me, I would have understood. I was very scared because I didn't understand what was happening to me. Of course, different people have different experiences with hallucinations. My hallucinations had sort of a religious theme. A bad one because I thought I was in hell. I hope this helps you and I'll be thinking of you. Good luck.
How do you know these "people" have schizophrenia? This is not a trivial diagnosis that friends make on one another. It is an involved, medical diagnosis, given in a hospital environment, often involving the use of medications to get to the root of the problem.

In that case, these people would be in the environment to be helped with their schizophrenia.

For you to make that diagnosis of someone and expect to find a way to "help" them is, well, just plain wrong. If there is someone you suspect has mental problems, they need to have help from others who are qualified to help them.
