Can a person recover from schizophrenia and sever depression?or is it just treatable,if so how? That person who said 60% recover from schizophrenia is wrong. I think it is about 10% spontaneously recover, but usually when older. Most people with schizophrenia are disabled & don't keep a job, but the meds help. The meds have their own side-effects. "The outlook for schizophrenia varies. By definition, schizophrenia is a chronic condition that includes persistent or recurring psychosis and poor functioning. Life expectancy may even be shortened if the person drifts away from supportive relationships, if personal hygiene or self-care decline, or if poor judgment leads to accidents. However, with active treatment, the effects of the illness can be significantly reduced. A better prognosis is likely if the first symptoms began after age 30 and if the onset was rapid. The better a person functioned before the onset of illness, the better he or she is likely to do. The absence of a family history of schizophrenia is also a good sign. (intelihealth.com)" In schizophrenia, the treatment is medication. There may also be counseling, to help reduce stress & to help someone to deal with stigma and those awful pills. Severe depression may happen only once in your life and never return. You may get it over and over. If you get it more than once, I think docs prefer to treat it as a chronic condition (you would have to look that up, less familiar with straight depression). If it's chronic the treatment is pills and counseling. In both cases, you could lead a nearly normal life if the pills work pretty good for you and you don't get the worst end of the side-effects. Maybe you can't hold down a job, though. I hang with folks with schizophrenia and major depression, both. Another way that you can "recover" is to do more than people expect you can do. A lot of times people have low expectations if you are mentally ill. Maybe you can't keep a steady job, but that doesn't mean that you are dumb or incompetent or that you don't want to contribute. So volunteer for something, or try doing part-time work. Source(s): bipolar person It is treatable with medication. Maybe some psychotherapy. I personally don't know the answer to this but I have a couple of suggestions that may alleviate symptoms: A portable cd player with a meditation/relaxation/anxiety cd. Walking or riding a bike. yes, infact there is a 60 percent chance a person will completely recover from schizophrenia. its just that we tend to never hear about the 60 percent but instead hear about the 40 percent, but even the 40 percent can still live normal lives with the help of medication. but i dont know really anything about sevear depression. it's treatable http://sensitive-psychoworld.blogspot.co... |
