How do people live with schizophrenia?

I am doing a research and, I would like to have commentary of people who were involved with person diagnosed with schizophrenia. Thank you.

i have worked with a lot of people with schizophrenia. most of the people accepted their illness, were on meds, and disability pensions. some worked at workshops for extra money and were involve with the community mental health association, for friendship, bingo's, suppers and special events. some were married, some had children. there are people also that were quite functional, has jobs , and were contributing to the community. just because a person has schizophrenia, does not mean they lose their intellect, or parenting skills, if they stay on medication. some people deny their illness, go off medication, and sometimes end up on the street, and have multiple hospital admissions.these are the people that are on the street, talking to themselves, responding to hallucinations and have lost interest in their personal hygiene schizophrenics are not usually dangerous, as society thinks they are, due to some movies and media. hope this helps you Source(s): ex mental health worker 30 years
they have to stay on meds.
My husband has schizophrenia we just take one day at a time because medicated or not his actions and emotions change.
Read Robert Whitakers book, Mad in America, then try to get some "definite" answers to these questions:

MindFreedom Hunger Strike

1. Evidence That Clearly Establishes the validity of "schizophrenia" "depression" or other "major mental Illnesses" as biologically-based brain diseases.

2. Evidence For A Physical Diagnostic Exam such as a scan or test of the brain, blood, urine, genes, etc that can reliably distinguish individuals with these diagnoses (prior to treatment with psychiatric drugs), from individuals without these diagnoses.

3. Evidence For a Base-line Standard of a neurochemically balanced "normal" personality, against which a neurochemical "imbalance" can be measured and corrected by pharmaceutical means.

4. Evidence That Any Psychotropic Drug can correct a "chemical imbalance" attributed to a psychiatric diagnoses, and is any thing more than a non-specific alterer of physiology.

5. Evidence That Any Psychotropic Drug can reliably decrease the likelihood of violence or suicide.

6. Evidence That Psychotropic Drugs do not in fact increase the overall likelihood of violence and suicide.

7. Finally, that they reveal publicly evidence published in mainstream medical journals, but unreported in mainstream media, that links use of some psychiatric drugs to structural brain changes.

Here are the side effects of the drugs that they push on people for this:

Drug induced stuttering, Weight gain, Dizziness, Sleeplessness, Restlessness, Anxiety, Diabetes, Racing heart, Heart disorders, Suicide risk in children and adults, Increased risk of birth defects and premature babies, White Blood Cell Disorders, Convulsions and Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome, Life threatening inflammation of the Pancreas, Glaucoma, Harmful food and drug interactions, Synergistic and Anti synergistic affects, Unnatural and dangerous serotonin re-uptake inhibitors, Dyskyntonia, Sudden Deaths, Drug overdoses, Drug induced psychiatric symptoms. Illegal sales on the street, Illegal creation of drugs, Illegal experimentation and addiction to drugs, Prescribing wrongfully,

Did you know that psychotropic drugs such as marijuanna and LSD cause the same affects that you would be calling symptoms? Did you know that these legal and illegal drugs would be no more dangerous then one another overall, and no one knows who will get addicted to these drugs and misuse them and who won't?

These are some things that you might want to study and find some way to stick into your research report some place. And here are some websites that you might want to look at too.

My brother has schizophrenia and every time we meet with people or go out in public with him it gets frustrating just because of his behavior. He is older then me. He doesn't know how to socialize well just because people look at him and pass there judgments instead of being compassionate. He has trouble with his meds because he thinks everyone else has the problem but that's very common he does get irate and angry quick and he hears voices that aren't there. one day at a time. his is paranoid schizophrenia.
