How important is having insight into schizophrenia for the recovery process?

bob rungta

I think it's very important. People with schizophrenia who have good insight are much more likely to comply with treatment and take their medications. People with poor insight don't believe anything is wrong with them and resist treatment.
recovery takes a lot of work, and it's very hard to understand no matter how many books you read. with that said, read read read! talk to some mental health professionals like therapists and psychiatrists. it takes patience as well. recovery takes a long time, and most patients who suffer from the disease don't like the medications because they have too many side effects. a person with schizophrenia may not ever live what we call a normal life. if you have a loved one with this disease, please be patient, loving, understanding, and compassionate. schizophrenia is a scarey disease. study as much as you can about the disease; at least you will know the basics.
