My grandson has been diagnosed with schizophrenia.any lattest treatment/printed material relating to it.17age? i don't think this is the right forum to suggest any remedy or material to treat or say about the schizophrenia, one of the major mental illnesses .my advice to you is to follow the treatment suggested by the psychiatrist. if you are not satisfied with his treatment consult another therapist for second opinion. Source(s): http://www.schizophrenia.com/ not that i can think of, but look around on google for studies with teenagers. i'm sure something will come up http://www.nami.org/ You'll want to sign up for their newsletter as it contains information about current research studies and invitations for study participants. 10 year volunteer. There are quite a few support groups out there and this would be ur best option. Some of the reading can be a little scarey and its always better to get real peoples experiences. Hopefully u can find what ur looking for Yes, by a doctor he will be prescribed an anti-psychotic in most cases, now a lot of these (as effective as they are) can be dangerous and leave negative side effects. Some can cause liver problems among other things and they are a "major tranqulizer" I have been currently doing research and the 6th newest anti-psychotic "aripiprazole" is meant to be good, it seems to have regular side effects (dizzyness etc and remember these side affects usually only last while the body is adjusting to the drugs which can take weeks) but nothing as bad as some such as rispderdal or risperidone which has been lead to causing tumours even after changing to new medication! Talk to your doctor, as scary as some medications are there are good ones out there and medications is currently the most effective treatment available and leaving him untreated can cause his mental state to deteriorate horribly. A note, treat him like you would before he was sick don't treat him as ill don't say "have you done this? taken your meds? had a shower?" being there for him as a friend is the most important thing you will ever learn. You will learn more information from peoples experiences with it than from medical text books but getting the medical basics is a need also. This site below can help |
