How many people in the world have schizophrenia? |
I have had it since age 14. This is a difficult question to answer, primarily because so many cases go undiagnosed. Actually, there are quite a few, and I doubt that 1.1% is close to high enough. There are differing levels of schizophrenia, and all respond well to medication, but you must continue the medication, even when you feel it is no longer necessary. It is simply a chemical imbalance that responds well to treatment.. Use of hemp or cannabis products will sometimes trigger or maybe cause schizophrenia, in a percentage of the population. Not everyone becomes schizophrenic due to the use of hemp, but between 17 and 23 percent of the population are subject to mental conditions that are eventually triggered if they use cannabis products, and schizophrenia is one of the possible conditions that can result. Source(s): BBC online, based on studies in Australia and New Zealand. Not sure how many in the world, but take a scan at this website: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/schizophren... The Prevalance Rate for schizophrenia is approximately 1.1% of the population over the age of 18 or, in other words, at any one time as many as 51 million people worldwide suffer from schizophrenia, including; * 6 to 12 million people in China (a rough estimate based on the population) * 4.3 to 8.7 million people in India (a rough estimate based on the population) * 2.2 million people in USA * 285,000 people in Australia * Over 280,000 people in Canada * Over 250,000 diagnosed cases in Britain http://www.schizophrenia.com/szfacts.htm... |
