Is there herb that can help to schizophrenia?

Is there herb that can help to schizophrenia?

Omega-3 fish oil (high in EPA) is supposed to help, there are a couple of clinical trials showing this has caused some improvements in some patients.

You can also try herbal remedies that help with sleep and stress. Lack of sleep exacerbates psychosis, and stress does the same.

But if you are in the grip of psychosis, you need to get treated by a doctor and prescribed proper medicines. I think the above remedies might help a little bit, but they won't solve your problem.

===I edited answer to add the following:===

I just remembered - before prescribing me antipsychotics, my doc tested me for vitamin D defficiency and thyroid problems. It turned out I did have a vitamin D deficiency, but unfortunately vitamin D supplements did not clear up my symptoms and I had to go on antipsychotics (but he kept me on the vitamin D too). Make sure you are getting all the vitamins you need by going on a course of multivitamins for a couple of weeks.

I know of several people with psychotic disorders who have been asked to take Tryptophan supplements by their pdoc. Tryptophan is a basic nutrient found in things like eggs and peanuts, and is a precursor to serotonin, a deficiency of which may be implicated in some forms of psychosis, anxiety, and depression.

Anyway, good luck.
Hi sorry but no schizophrenia needs to be controlled with medication prescribed by a pdoc. lots of therapy may be a help but like bipolar (i have) its a long term condition that if left untreated by get a lot worse.
I don't know either. But if you find one, let me know!
Schizophrenia is a severe brain disease that interferes with normal brain and mental function鈥攊t can trigger hallucinations, delusions, paranoia, and significant lack of motivation. Without treatment, schizophrenia affects the ability to think clearly, manage emotions, and interact appropriately with other people. It is often disabling and can profoundly affect all areas of your life (for example, becoming unable to work or go to school). Being told that you or someone you love has schizophrenia can be frightening or even devastating. The best way to improve your quality of life with schizophrenia is to learn as much as you can about this condition and then adhere to the recommended treatment.
The best way to see mental disorders is as a series of varying degrees of depression and stress. Mild stress produces an excellent person for creativity and performance. More depression saps the energy and creativity that these people once had as they leave the neurosis level and become bipolar. There are three levels used to describe Bipolar. Then the imbalance of chemicals made by your own brain plays havoc with the whole control system. The auto brain or lower brain can aggressively access messages that were kept from it earlier. As the depression continues and more and more logic substitutions are made the mind goes into a full psychosis where ideas are disassociated and language decays. The end result of psychosis from severe depression is schizophrenia which has been described as incurable . There are of course are always a few people who have been able to recover mental stability. The greatest learning step required for all levels of depression recovery is to see that society as two groups . Study what you group are in and stay with your own kind to find peace and happiness.
no i do not know of a herb that helps schizophrenia. i know a few people who have tried, but none of them were success full. what does work is medications ordered by a psychiatrist, the medications relieve the symptoms, but do not cure the illness.

I am absolutely shocked at the low level of awareness demonstrated in some of the answers given here. To the "top contributor" who is suggesting that someone labelled with "schizophrenia" is doomed to drug use for the rest of his/her life, and to "words_that_live_on" who casually refers to "schizophrenia" as a "severe brain disease", this is shameful ignorance and totally untrue.

It is not a disease or medical disorder, despite claims or implications made here and elsewhere. There is no scientific proof that "schizophrenia" (or any other mental disorder) exists as a brain abnormality, disease or "chemical imbalance".

The U.S. Surgeon General鈥檚 Report on Mental Health states: 鈥淭he precise causes (etiology) of mental disorders are not known鈥?and that 鈥渢here is no definitive lesion, laboratory test, or abnormality in brain tissue that can identify the illness.鈥?br />
"Chemical imbalance鈥t鈥檚 a shorthand term really, it鈥檚 probably drug industry derived鈥?We don鈥檛 have tests because to do it, you鈥檇 probably have to take a chunk of brain out of someone - not a good idea." Dr. Mark Graff, Chair of the Committee of Public Affairs for the American Psychiatric Association. July, 2005.

Symptoms that psychiatry labels as "schizophrenia" (or it's related disorders), can stem from any number of variable sources. Many people have overcome disorders such as "bipolar" and "schizophrenia" through effective megavitamin therapy and effective nutrition. A growing wealth of evidence supports that underlying nutritional deficiencies can cause even the most severe mental disorders, including "schizophrenia". [1,2,3,4,5,6]

You may also be interested to know that the work undertaken by pioneers such as Dr. Lars Martensson and the late Dr. Loren Mosher show that there is also another way - far safer and more effective than psychiatric restraint, drugs and electro-shocks. For over a decade Loren R Mosher, MD, held a central position in American psychiatric research. He was the first Chief of the Center for Studies of Schizophrenia at the National Institute of Mental Health, 1969-1980. He founded the Schizophrenia Bulletin and for ten years he was its Editor-in-Chief. He also led the Soteria Project, which demonstrated that effective rehabilitation is possible without harmful antipsychotic drugs. Soteria provided a safe and sane environment where schizophrenic patients could stay, medication-free, with a young, nonprofessional staff trained to listen to and understand them and provide companionship. The idea was that schizophrenia can often be overcome with the help of meaningful relationships, rather than with drugs, and that such treatment would eventually lead to unquestionably healthier lives. The results were fantastic. Over just 6 weeks, patients recovered as quickly as those treated with medication in hospitals. [7,8]

Read "Mad In America: Bad Science, Bad Medicine, and the Enduring Mistreatment of the Mentally Ill" by Robert Whitaker - http://www.madinamerica.com/ - for more of an indepth background on psychiatric fraud and the junkscience behind the "schizophrenia" label. It's an eye opener!

See this video on YouTube where numerous psychiatrists, gathering at an annual convention, freely admit that their profession is unscientific and provides no cures of any kind! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhu7ik361...
