What is it like to live with schizophrenia? |
Personally, I mean. I don't mean what is it like living with a schizophrenic. During a training excercise, all the theraptsts and social workers had to put headphones on that mimicked what it was like to be a schizophrenic who was having delusions. There were voices that were audible saying all kinds of things making it very hard to differentiate what was really being said to you and what was "in your head". My brother says it is very distacting, confusing and sometimes scary. The voices they hear, and delusions, are as real as anything. Most of the medications make you very forgetful too. It is hard to even remember to take your meds. It is wonderful.Trust me. I would tell you, but the voices tell me not to. Its reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalllllll... cccccccccool! It's not as much fun as it's cracked up to be.... I can't make up my mind. It can be torturous. The person who feels they are having any kind of symptoms that they fear may be anything like unfounded fears, our torturing thoughts, a feeling that they may hurt themselves or others should indeed seek medical help. If you did not feel MEDICALLY unhealthy you would see a physician, if you feel MENTALLY unhealty, you should do the same. |
