It typically begins in early adulthood; between the ages of 15 and 25. Men tend to get develop schizophrenia slightly earlier than women; whereas most males become ill between 16 and 25 years old, most females develop symptoms several years later, and the incidence in women is noticably higher in women after age 30. Can be anytime, preadolescent to whatever. However, the books teach that most common timerange for diagnosis is mid twenties to midthirties. But thats certainly no hard and fast rule.
It is very rare, but not unheard of for it to happen in young school age children. There are many informative sites that can help answer any questions that you may be having.
I had a cousin who was diagnosed with schizophrenia at the age of nine and have had students in the past that have been diagnosed also. It usually stems from sever emotional traume in earlier years. The websites will give you all the info you need.
