Anyone out there who has a friend with schizophrenia? |
What I want to know is things like 'How difficult it is to get along with a paranoid schizophrenic?' How you deal with it? Why you believe they are not functional? Are they weirdos? What kind of paranoid trips do schizophrenics go on? My brother is a schizophrenic. His schizophrenia is very extreme. He isn't hard to get along with or even understand, It is very hard to be around him more than a couple of days. Question 1. I remove myself when I need a break from his pacing, or delusions. 2. He is functional, just in his own way 3. No they are not weird, in my opinion they might be making some kind of since, but the "normal people" just aren't getting it. 4. Some of the trips my brother has went on is paranoid delusions, voices, thoughts Check out the website listed below. It is the National Associate for the Mentally Ill. It is a support organization for those families dealing with a family member with some type of drastic mental illness such as Schizophrenia and paranoia. I'm sure that you can find what your looking for or someone to talk through there. Good luck. www.nami.org google the word. You will get a better explanation with a more accurate description. Remember, everyone needs a friend but find out what you are dealing with. Talk to your friend's parents if you can. Talk to your own doctor. Good luck I know someone who MIGHT be schizophrenic. The chances are very good, considering it has run in her family but I think she is too young to tell. It isn't difficult to get along with her, but her parents brought her up somewhat spoiled so the only thing I have to deal with is that, but only a little. She is functional, she isn't a weirdo, she can tell the difference between brown and white eggs. She doesn't really go on any paranoid trips, but when we are together laughing a lot I don't think she hears any voices. I've heard from her mother she heard voices once, but I don't know. Why do you want to know? My grandma is and I guess it depends on the person and their personality. They have episodes of delusions where they think stuff is going on that isnt. They may hear voices and interact with them. This poses problems in their daily life. Medication short term and long term may be needed and can bring person back to reality. These people can friends, a parent, grandparents, anyone, even some children and teens. It isn't that difficult to get along with a schizophrenic person. Usually they'll act like everyone else unless something has happend where they haven't been on medication, changed medication or it's unstabled. I have to see my mom go though a lot with her. In and out of hospitals, having to take care of her, having to deal with her, etc. No they are not wierdos. They have a life and familes just like everone else and should be treated like everyone else. My grandma's paranoia has a lot to deal with things like worry. There has been one time she called here 22 times in the same day. In episodes, somtimes she doesn't think you are you. She thinks you're an imposter. She hears voices and believes them. She tells you things that she doesn't mean. She's told me and my mom that she didn't love us before. We look it to heart, but we also had to realize that she has a mental disorder. We know she didn't mean it, and she told us. She didn't even remember saying that. They are not weirdos! I have lots of friends with it but one of my best friends has it and takes Seroquel. He is nice, kind, friendly and very creative. Sometimes tears come easily to these people so you cannot joke with sarcasm on them. Otherwise than that i would have never known. Another which it is suspected as her diagnosis is EXTREMELY sweet! We get along like too peas in a pod and she also does cry easy and sometimes gets scared. She does not take medicine. I myself used to take medicine for it and my friends describe me as rather strange at times, sometimes too sad or too happy sometimes I show off my high intelligence too much and let my creativity go too far etc. but in the most a very nice friend they cannot find anywhere else. I hope this helps you and that if you find someone out there that needs a friend you will reach out to them! |
