schizophrenia is quite a serious disease if it's not controlled... after each psychotic episode... which are easily prevented with medication... the sufferer does not return to normal functioning but to a slightly lower level... eventually they are unable to cope with normal daily living... this deterioration is preventable by early and tight control after the diagnosis is made
