Who has an experience to tell me about schizophrenia?
I used to work with people who suffered various types of mental diseases, by trying to ease them back into the Community. The Schizophrenics I took care of typically had the same delusions of hearing people through the phone lines, experiencing much paranoia -- particularly that somebody out there was conspiring against them, following them in their cars, calling the police and reporting them. They would hear voices a lot, too. However, when these patients consistently took their medications, all signs of the disease disappeared. You wouldn't even know they had Schizophrenia. The key point in having Schizophrenia and allowing oneself to live a normal and productive life is to always take the medication prescribed. Many times Schizophrenics will feel they are doing so well and then justify discontinuing taking their medication. They will relapse back into the schizophrenic state guaranteed this way. It's a very sad and unfair disease, but as I mentioned it can be controlled however it is all in the hands of the person who has Schizophrenia. It's a devastating disease. One of my best friends suffers from it. She takes medication to control it. She has to take it for the rest of her life.
