If I do not feel that I have schizophrenia, but a mental health entity feels otherwise, can I challenge it?

As in, challenge the diagnosis itself? It is affecting not only my life but also my ability to find gainful employment.

Paul

You can challenge anything, but doing it effectively is another matter.
What brought on this diagnosis? Do you have hallucinations or delusions? Very often people will cling to delusions with every ounce of strength they have, but this doesn't make them true. Get another opinion if you want, but you should know that schizophrenia has been identified for a long time and its signs and symptoms are unmistakable. Source(s): Former nurse
Have you heard of the reactive mind, t in there is anything that is happening bad in you life, you can read about here http://dianetics.bridgeinc.us/pages/what...
Go and get other opinions from other psycho analysists and psychologists. They can help come to a proper diagnosis with what is going on.
You most certainly can challenge it. You can request a second opinion, and your request must be honored. As for gainful employment, federal law prohibits prospective employers asking about your health history. You can be asked health questions AFTER you're hired, but that's for purposes of insurance benefits.
This is hard for you to see from there but the diagnosis is also based on your vocabulary and greeting. The stress at this time is affecting your life. It has to get worse before there is learning here I think. The diagnosis can be left off job applications for sure.
Yes you can. Psychiatric diagnoses are not scientific in any way; they are purely subjective. If a psychiatrist thinks you have "schizophrenia" then you must have "schizophrenia". There is no medical test that can determine it's existence. In fact there is absolutely no valid scientific evidence that shows the existence of what constitutes "schizophrenia" as any sort of biological/neurological disorder, brain abnormality or "chemical imbalance" whatsoever.

"Chemical imbalance鈥t鈥檚 a shorthand term really, it鈥檚 probably drug industry derived鈥?We don鈥檛 have tests because to do it, you鈥檇 probably have to take a chunk of brain out of someone - not a good idea." Dr. Mark Graff, Chair of the Committee of Public Affairs for the American Psychiatric Association. July, 2005.

For more information I would suggest reading "Mad In America: Bad Science, Bad Medicine, and the Enduring Mistreatment of the Mentally Ill" by Robert Whitaker (http://www.madinamerica.com) for more of an indepth background on psychiatric fraud and the junkscience behind the "schizophrenia" label.

You may also find some of the legal information available at http://groups.msn.com/psychbusters/needh... of some benefit. The abuse report form is courtesy of the Citizens Commission on Human Rights who can put you in touch with the right people to help you take action.

I wish you all the best!
