Does any one know the limitations of the dopamine hypothesis regarding schizophrenia?

Hi, they are beginning to look at a different hypothesis called the glutamate hypothesis. There was a good article in scientific american called "Decoding Schizophrenia" from Jan 2004 - unfortunately I think you may have to pay for it now though but worth the read! Or try this one http://www.rxpgnews.com/research/psychia... hope you find what you are looking for, remember scientific theories are only "true" until someone else comes and finds a better theory.
Surf google or ask your doctor!
There are 2 types of schizophrenia and only one (the kind with hallucinations) responds to dopamine reducing drugs. The limitation of the theory is that the other type (which includes flat emotions and catatonic states) doesn't respond to the same medications and might be caused by something else, like brain deformities.
They've also noticed that when brain scans are performed on people with schizophrenia, the ones who have the second type also have enlarged brain ventricles.
