How do you act with a loved one that has been diagnosed with schizophrenia.?

I barely found out that my teenage brother has schizophrenia. I feel bad because I always accussed him of being on drugs.

DOn't change how you treat him now...having a mental illness is bad enough without people treating you like an alien.....even if you believe you are one!
Just love him,and if you pray...pray for him.
Best wishes.
Suppose you will have to spend 50% of your time with each one
just be normal...he's still your brother!
Getting a diagnosis doesn't change the person so why should you change? Getting a diagnosis just attaches a fancy medical word to an existing condition. It may or may not help. (probably will)

Look, we're all crazy in one way or another and not all of it is dangerous or unhealthy and if you act like its some kind of stigma it reflects worse on you than on him.
Very carefully, with much love.
I have a 1/2 sister with that diagnosis who is now deceased.
She was frightening to be around b/c her behavior was unpredictable.
The most important thing is that strangely, folks in that situation do not like to take their meds, which is the key to their being able to act normal. Try to make sure, if you are in a position to, to make sure that he takes his meds. Do not blame yourself if you cannot or if he will not cooperate.
Best of luck to you and your family.
Same as before, just help him remember to take his med's and you shouldn't be able to tell that he is any different from everyone else.
