Is it possible to just "get over" schizophrenia? |
When I was 14 and 15, I had this belief that I could telepathically communicate with all of my friends. We would "have meetings" in my head. I was on drugs bad at the time. I quit drugs. And moved to a different state, also. I still talked to them in my head for months though, until I said to myself "Wow, if they can't say it to my face, it's not worth listening to." And within a month or so, I completely blocked out all of these thoughts. Only once since then have I had an issue with it. I went about 4 years with no problems, but for about 2 minutes last year, I felt this random urge to be...'crazy'. Again, I just said if they can't say it to my face, it isn't worth listening to. Aside for this one glitch in my past, I believe I am relatively 'normal'. Any thoughts on this? Yes, it is. I remember in Psychology, they had the "rule of thirds". One thirds of the patients would simply get over schizophrenia, one third would be functional enough to be in society even though they suffered, and one third would be mental institution bound. So yes, it is possibly to get over it. But it could have been the drugs and random cravings. Depends on the drugs.Anything is possible!!!!!!!!!! Congrats on your success of beating the drugs! I had doctors classify me that way; when I went to the pharmacist to fill my meds, he refused to fill it cuz he knows that I am not like that -- yes, I grew up w/ this pharmacist so he really knows my background (these doctors didn't know me from Adam or Eve). I am proud of you for quitting the drugs! No. Hmmmm.......if you are truly schizophrenic, then the answer is no! See a psychiatrist. But many people talk to themselves, and that doesn't make them schizophrenic. Good that you got off the drugs. See a psychiatrist, though. My degree is in psychology and I currently work with patients that have Schizophrenia. So I am very familiar with your issues. The best thing you can do is see a psychiatrist to receive an accurate diagnosis. Only then can you know if you have Schizophrenia. It is not possible to be cured. This is a genetic disorder that is chronic, but it does show up in a variety of severity. Many people can function well as long as they are taking their medications consistently and on a dosage that works for them. This can only be determined my their doctor. Now, drugs can cause a date of psychosis which can appear to be symptoms of Schizophrenia. If it's been plenty of time for the drugs to be removed from your system, then you should no longer have these "voice conversations." So, hopefully your body was simply having these problems because of the drugs you were taking, but if you are continuing to have these problems then you should see your doctor. The sooner you do, then the sooner you can be helped. Remember even if they do diagnosis you with Schizophrenia or a similar mental disorder, many people can live happy, healthy, and responsibly normal lives as long as they follow the doctors instructions about taking their medication. So sorry, no you cannot get over this disorder. I hope this helps. Current work experience/knowledge from schooling degree. |
