My doctor took an x-ray & said I have chronic sinusitis. Does this cause you to not be able to breathe deep?

I can breathe just find with out any struggles. However, I can't take deep breaths all the time. I do have a lot of sinus drainage. I was a smoker and just quit 8 days ago. I have had sinus problems for 2 years though. I talke mucinex and it helps some, but not like I need it to. I don't cough at all. I wish I could cough to get it up. Does anyone have any suggestions or advise on what else to do.

HI TIffiny

Here are some ideas to heal the issue.

CURING DIFFICULT or STUBBORN SINUS INFECTIONS

If antibiotics and/or the above home remedies are not curing your sinus infection, you need to take a look at your diet and eliminate all the mucous forming/thickening foods or drinks. Milk, citrus, spicy foods, wheat, cheese, etc. are usually the culprits. Try eliminating them from your diet for a few days.

Then try all of the following:

* Grapefruit Seed Extract -- your sinus infection may disappear after a couple of days of grapefruit seed extract. We like the drops, but be forewarned -- this tastes terrible!! Also, never take it on an empty stomach (especially first thing in the morning).

* Potassium supplements -- dries up mucous.
* Drink apple cider vinegar throughout the day in large glasses of water (ACV thins mucous).
* Run a hot shower run onto your face (forehead and nose) and then clear all the mucous from sinuses. Do this several times a day.

You should see improvement within a day or two.

Along with drinking apple cider vinegar, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you also oil pull twice a day. In case you didn't know, Oil pulling is that fabulous ancient remedy from India that consists of swishing sesame or sunflower oil in your mouth for 10-20 minutes. It is now at the top of our list of best natural decongestants!

Best of health to you

It could be an issue...smoking could also be the issue. Speak to your ENT about it.

You should see if your doc can give you a stronger med Mucinex is only over the counter stuff and I bet if you tell your doc everything he can give you something that is RX.

I have the same thing and just started these new meds.

I'm in heaven because I feel 100% better. No more mucus in my throat after suffering for 6 months with sinus.

XYZal - 5 mg Once a day.

Veramist - 2 Snorts in each nostril Once a Day.

These are both fairly new products, so talk to your Dr.

STOP taking medications that dry you out. You are giving yourself sinus problems. Rinse out the sinuses with warm salt water (inhale a teaspoon at a time). Do this periodically. This will get rid of any infections up there and the mucus also. You should sleep in a room with a humidifier to keep the sinuses moist. Don't blow your nose too hard-it will create lesions in the sinus cavities and infection will set in. Start taking a teaspoon of LOCAL honey each day. This will stop you from getting colds and flu as well as any allergic reactions. Also, try Vicks Vaporub. Put a little at the base of your nostrils-it will clear out your head and help with mucus buildup.Give these a try. Like all herbal remedies, it will take a little time but you will not experience any side-effects from these remedies. Decongestants and anti histamines will cause you to become dehydrated and will cause organ damage over time.
