What to do about chronic sinusitis?

swelling of membranes, nasal congestion

Oh, you have my heartfelt sympathy. I sufferred for decades, and not until it was gone did I realise that most days I had a low grade headache as well.

Then, because of an accident when I broke my nose, I asked the surgeon fixing it to fix my sinuses at the same time.

Heaven.

The over the counter nasal sprays, while good for a while or only when you are really bad, can cause what is called a rebound effect. That is, the situation becomes worse because of overuse.

I really would recommend you see an ear, nose & throat surgeon if you can.

If that is out of the question, daily inhalations over a steaming bowl of water helps a little. And I found room sanitisers that smelt like eucalyptus or something similar gave releif, especially in the bedroom.

Good luck

if you were correctly diagnosed with chronic sinusitis... first you can manage it ( not for long time ) with some nasal decongestants like phenylphrine and xylometazoline... but after a while this wont be enough and your condition will worsen...finally you will need to make a surgery to clean your sinus cavity and this is the rec commended treatment for you.

I feel for you, have been there myself, and sadly am still there. They state that chronic means you've had it over three months. I had it for four months a few years back and they did cat scans and saw how deviated my septum was. So I had septoplasty. It worked really well. But about a year later it deviated again, and back to the drawing board...and I've had a sinus infection forever now, tried hitting it with amox first, then a z-pak now I'm finally on Augmentin.

I find that a warm wash cloth brings temporary, but very helpful, relief.
