Any help with chronic allergic sinusitis please?

I'm so fed up waking up unable to breathe and I am dependant on sprays to keep my airways free during the day. Surely that can't be good for me either? It can be really painful too sometimes - literally a pain in the face, that I'm sure fellow sufferers are familiar with! Having had x-rays, I've been told by the GP that I dont have operable sinuses, it is definitely another symptom of my pain in the *** allergies. I have been waiting for months to see an Immunologist. In the meantime I have tried various natural remedies including homeopathy and chinese herbs, which have not been strong enough. My friend swears by Indian hopi candling but it did nothing for me. I dont eat much dairy by the way as Im allergic to moulds and cultures (eg cheeses and yoghurts) and I know dairy is mucus-promoting. Anything new out there? Has anything really helped you?

Thanks so far for your help. I should underline that have been told surgery is not an option - xrays show I have no pollops or anatomical problem to operate on. It's not infection either and antibiotics do nothing for it. Unfortunately the conclusion is that it is allergy.

sounds like my son...the thing that helped him the most was immunotherapy shots and using sinus rinses, it may take a couple of weeks of twice daily sinuse rinses before you see anything coming out (it did with my son), but once the gunk starts getting washed out it really does help.

I have suffered from chronic sinusitus for many years and believe me have tried everything under the sun to clear it up. I used to take 1000mg of effervescent vitamin c just before I went to bed but upped the dosage to 2000mg and now I wake up every morning and my airways are clear!!! Yippee!!! Just needed that bit more of vit. C.

Hello Lala,

i have the same problems you describe. I'm going to the doctor monday, and will be seeing an ear nose and throat specialist, which is something you may want to consider as well. I'm not sure that a GP should be diagnosing whether or not your sinuses are operable, get a second opinion. Check out what may be irritating your sinuses--diet is a concern, but what about the air quality in your home--dust, mold(were there any leaks in your home), Do you have feathers in your pillows? Also, any construction going on nearby?
The steam room helps me, but when I go home my sinuses and throat get irritated again--which leads me to believe I'm having an issue with my living space/air quality. Good luck.

ive found in the morning steaming my face with hot (not boiling) water with citrus juice and breathing in the steam.

its good for your skin and nose

Rinse your sinuses out by inhaling warm salt water by the teaspoon full. Let it run down your throat so you know it went all the way thru. Blow out . Rinse again with warm plain water. Blow out again. That should get rid of any infection up there. Start taking a teaspoon of LOCAL honey each day to help your body develop immunities to all the air born irritants around you. This will also help stop mucus production. Stop nose sprays and any decongestants or antihistamines that you take-These will dry out the upper respiritory system and promote infection and irritation. Be careful of which remedies you take. There are long term effects to some of these-nose sprays are addictive-you won't be able to breathe without them after a while, antihistmines and decongestants will dehydrate your complete body (including the kidneys!). Put a humidifier in your room at night-this will help the condition of your sinuses. Drink plenty of 100% juice and pure water to keep your body moist.
Like all herbal remedies, local honey will take a while to become effective-the rule of thumb with herbs is "however long you have had the symptom, that's how long it will take to cure". So be patient-your body needs to get well by itself, with your help, but this is the best way to REALLY fix yor problem-not with chemicals that are foreign to your body chemistry. The meds now adays will try to alter your chemistry to get rid of your symptoms but not fix the real problem.

initial treatment of chronic sinusitis is conservative including antibiotics, decongestant, antihistamine & sinus irrigation.
surgery is the main treatment of chronic sinusitis.now a days endoscopic sinus surgeries r more popular.it also avoids external incisions.
