Sinusitis suggestions???? |
any suggestions on chronic sinus infections? i'm on Bactrim DS right now :( try boiling a pot of water, then putting a towel over your head and breathing the steam through your nose (careful not to scald yourself with too-hot steam).. you can go to a herbalist and get tinctures or herbs (like eucalyptus) that you can add to the steam water.. also, a nasal spritzer filled with saline solution (salt water) can be helpful. finish the course of bactrim. other abx choices are augmentin and amoxicillin. Stop taking antibiotics! I use to have sinus problems until I finally stopped taking prescription drugs! Actually, I refuse to take anything. Get a humidifier in your home, apply hot compresses, but stop taking drugs to cure it or you will always get it again! You should finish the medication, but what you need is a long term plan so it doesn't occur again. Clearing your sinuses with salt water is good. You can get sprays ready made, I've also seen make-your-own on the internet. Make sure you don't have pets or carpet. Dust and vacuum regularly. You might also try stretching and breathing exercises, as the improved circulation and airflow help improve things. Get outdoors more, perhaps for a walk. Nothing beats fresh air. Go to your pharmacy and ask for a sinus rinse. Yogis have done this for centuries. You flush out your sinuses with a warm saline solution every day to get the germs and irritants out. Avoid milk products because they produce mucous. Be sure you are eating a healthy diet so that your body is better able to fend off infectionl. finish your antibiotics. and whenever you begin to get congested, use saline spray, and periodically 'inhale' water (plain or salt) into your sinuses (i know--very unpleasant) that should help prevent infection in the future. stay on top of ANY congestion you get to prevent having to take antibiotics. chronic sinusitis, haven't had to take antibiotics for years. |
