Any suggestions as what to do next for my chronic sinusitis problem? |
Since I started smoking when I was 18 I have had 1-4 episodes of acute sinusitis per year, now I am 26 and have quit smoking for two months now and for the last six months I have had a sinus infection that does not go away with medication, I was referred to an ENT and he put me on Augmentin 875 mg twice a day for four weeks, today was my last day taking the drug and I feel normal but my i still have post nasal drip and i am worried the infection will come back, it usually comes back within a week after taking the antibiotic and for the last six months, this is what has been happening, i have had a CT scan which just showed some fluid between my eyes, and i had a RAZZ test done which showed no underlying allergies, i have installed air filters in my home, when my sinus infection flares up i have get head congestion and it feels like a ball of mucus above the roof of my mouth, my head hurts and body aches, sometimes a fever, and i cannot function, please help me, i cannot live with this! Has your dr. tried you on any steroid nasal sprays? Flonase, Nasonex.....I know you're young and steroids are not a preferred choice by any means. They do stop post nasal drip without the "speed" side effects of antihistamines. When nothing else works......You didn't mention the simple things you can do to keep them from flaring up so severely. At the 1st sign of pain, super warm, soggy damp, washcloth across your eyes and forehead. Straight saline solution will keep them flushed out. (Ocean) AS SOON AS you start to run a fever, call the dr. I feel as though I'm beating my head against the wall speaking to my own Son, who will be 26 yrs. old in just over 9 wks. As we speak, he's recovering from being deathly sick!! (having started once again in his sinuses, then continues on into his lungs!). Good luck to you. My Son has NEVER smoked, don't be deceived by that theory! His started in early chilldhood, as did mine. Another thing that you need to be aware of...you cannot continue to take strong and prolonged courses of antibiotics without your body becoming immune to them. You will need to be switched to a different antibiotic, the family of "sulfa" drugs are made especially for sinuses. Keflex, etc... Just make sure you understand ALL of your options. I find dr.s are stretched too thin and some days act as though they've already forgotten everything they ever thought of knowing. You need to use a good mulitvitamin that is well absorbed by your body and a good antioxidant supplement. Get rid of toxic cleaners and laundry products and switch to all natural ones.. Thorougly clean your place with the new products. This should help tremendously especially if you get your immune system healthy with antioxidants. Try a saline nasal spray and humidifiers in your house. They helped me immensely. Girl!! You sound just like I was a year ago!! They had me taking two kinds of antibiotics for almost 3 months before I finally got to have sinus surgery. I had so much of that crud up there and no matter what pills they gave me or how many times I flushed my nose out, I couldn't get it to move. After the 3rd cat scan they decided that I wasn't getting better so they got me in for surgery. The surgery wasn't bad at all. I had built it up to be something really scary. It was not worth worring about in the end. If I were you, i'd hound the doctors until you get some satifaction. It doesn't sound as if this crud is going to just go away on its own. Don't let them keep putting you off. You might need surgery and the longer you wait, the longer you're going to feel like poo. Good luck!!! And, don't put too much worry into the surgery. It really wasn't bad and i've not had sinus problems since then. Try taking Zinc supplements. You can find them in the vitamin aisle at any drug store. The zinc is supposed to help fight off cold viruses. You could also try Airborne. It has Zinc in it as well as some other vitamins that may help you fight off the infection. Did they check you for allergies to mold? www.supplementwatch.com/supato... i have the same thing and my doc told me that nothing can take care of it for good. |
