Flu? Cold? Sinusitis? |
It started with a sore throat and stinging nose on Thursday afternoon at work. By the time I got home at four I was feeling really crappy (hardly able to swallow) by the time i went to bed my head felt really heavy and I could barely stay awake. Yesterday I woke up with a swollen face and a headache, my whole body ached and I didn't get out of bed all day. Today I have the same headache, swollen and sore face, earrache, jaw ache, a dry cough and aches and pains all over. I don't want to trouble the doctor over a simple virus, but I am unable to sleep for more than two hours at a time. What can I take? I would go to the doctor, it sounds like the Flu or a serious sinus infection to me. Either way you can get antibiotics to help you get better faster than over the counter drugs do and sleeping will be possible. If it is possible walk in clinics give prescriptions for cheaper generic drugs to cut back on cost but are still as effective as the name brand arm and a leg cost kind. Try a walk in clinic and just see a general physician instead of making a private costly appointment. I hope you feel better soon! -That is what I get when I get another one of my horrible sinus infections. Don't breath back the yellowy-green yuck if you can help it, it will make you vomit after a bit! It'll kill your nose but blow it frequently and use a medicated chapstick on the end of your nose when it starts to get dry and sore. Sounds weird, but it works. I keep one in my bathroom just for when I'm sick so that I don't get it mixed up, have it labeled or throw it away afterwards. Source(s): I get sinus infections easily ... Sounds like a bad virus. Any nighttime cold remedy should put you to sleep but if you are still bad on Monday, you should go to a doctor to make sure it isn't something worse. ive had the same thjing. i dont know what it is but i took an anti hystamine tablet just on the off chance as my b/f said it might work. I woke up this morning and most of the symptoms are away. I dont know how and i dont care as long as they work! I bought them over the counter and got the non drowsy kind from Tesco. If you don't have a fever, and no purulent (green or yellow) drainage from your nose or phlegm, it's probably at bad head cold. There are some great multi-symptom products over the counter, but make sure you get one with true psuedoephedrine in it...you'll have to ask for those products from the pharmacist now, thanks to some many people using it to make crystal meth... Also, try Afrin for no more than 3 days for the congestion (swollen face and headache may be from sinus congestion). You can also use a Saline nose spray and do nasal lavage (spray a bunch of saline spray in your nose 3-4 squirts, try to wait about 5 minutes, then blow your nose. This should help open you up, relieve the pressure, and maybe break up the headache. Some home remedies I find that help are hot steamy showers, as long as you don't feel weak or lightheaded. Also, I read once that soaking your feet in hot water helps body circulation and can open up your head. Chicken Noodle Soup is great too, the hot salty broth opens the head and soothes the throat without causing nausea/vomitting. If you don't improve, get worse, notice a thick and colored phlegm or snot, develop a fever over 101.5, or have difficulty breathing, call your doc and get yourself taken care of! RN, BSN with lots of head colds myself! |
