Does anyone here have Sjogren's Syndrome? |
I was just diagnosed by a rhuematologist today, and I'm scared. I'm a 27 year old female. Does anyone have any practical advice to give about living with this disease? Everything I read online is very frightening. It would be comforting to hear from someone who is managing the disease. Thanks a bunch. If your eyes and tear ducts are dry, buy some Refresh eye drops and use regularly. If sinuses are dry, irrigate often with saline nasal spray. If mouth is dry, get some anti-dryness toothpaste (Biotene or Tom's) and also mouthwash (Biotene) to help keep moisture in your mouth. Drink lots of water and don't let your mouth dry out while sleeping. Visit the dentist often since a dry mouth means more cavities. The Biotene brand products work well and are available at Walgreen's. See your rheumatologist regularly for evaluation. Sjogren's will often improve for no particular reason and then come back when you have just about forgotten about having it. good luck http://www.emedicine.com/emerg/topic537.... I too was just diagnosed. I was told to watch my salt intake and be patient until medicine starts to work. Once Th's happens things will go back to pretty normal. you can live a whole normal life with disease |
