After 1 year of therapy with levothyroxine, the antibody levels and lymphocytes (evidence of inflammation) decreased significantly only in the group receiving the medication. Among the untreated group, the antibody levels rose or remained the same. The researchers concluded that preventative treatment of normal TSH range patients with Hashimoto's disease reduced the various markers of autoimmune thyroiditis, and speculated that that such treatment might even be able to stop the progression of Hashimoto's disease, or perhaps even prevent development of the hypothyroidism. ) http://thyroid.about.com/cs/hypothyroidi... Not to be humorous, but it sounds like a Swedish thing? Is it a neurological, psychological, or physical condition? I wish all the best for your cousin, and pray for him to be cured. There are some medications that can be prescribed for Sjogren's . One problem that can be helped is having a very dry mouth - you can get mouthwashes that are specifically made for dry mouth. Also tell her to see her dentist regulary because this can cause some problems in her mouth. Many people manage to control symptoms and live a fairly normal life. Just be there to encourage her as she learns to deal with this. Go to this web site for all your answers. Even has a support tab. www.sjogrens-guidebook.com |
